Bursting Bulbs

Not to worry, most of these bulbs were burned out before we got to them.

Jello Shots

This round of  high speed images is brought to you by Jello.
The Jello-filled goblets met their demise thanks to a pellet gun and some firecrackers.

Exploding Colors

Here's the second set of images from my recent evening of messing around with high speed photography.  This time, the unwilling subjects came from a shiny new box of crayons.  I'd say that the $0.47 that I spent on the crayons was a good investment.

Here's the before shot.  Yes, that's a fuse sticking out from the crayons.

I love that the blast took the tips right off of a few of the crayons.  Too funny.

Burst Of Color

I spent some time wit some friends last night shooting some high-speed stuff.  We used an audio trigger tethered to three stropbes set at 1/64th power to stop the action.  It was a whole bunch of fun.  There were a lot of things that fell victim to the firecrackers, but the Legos were my favorite.  And, just because I know that someone will ask, I did not take the Legos from my son's collection, these were from my collection.

The Trolley Car

For a long time, there has been an old, burned-out, graffiti-covered trolley car out near the Great Salt Lake, next to the Temple Of The Birds.  It has been the home to countless numbers of photo-shoots and who knows what else.  I've had the opportunity to shoot here several times over the past few years.  Today, I found out that the trolley car has been removed.  Though I'm sure that many considered it an eyesore, it has been a well-known fixture in the Salt Lake art community and will be missed.

Wetlands In The Morning Light

I spent a couple of hours this morning out at Farmington Bay with the intent to shoot some Bald Eagles.  Contrary to last year, there weren't a lot of Eagles to be found, though I did get a few decent shots.  I did take advantage of the opportunity to make a few images of the grasses in the early morning light.  The first four images were created using an 800mm lens.  I love how the lens compressed the images and made them more about color and texture than about the grasses.  The morning light really enhanced the rich colors of the grasses.

The first four images were created using the Canon 1D Mk IV and the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens.

The last two images were created using the Canon 40D and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens.

Drops and Goblets

I realized tonight that I hadn't posted these images yet.  Better late than never, right?

These images were created several weeks ago when I got together with some good friends for an evening of shooting.
Over the course of the evening, we tried multiple setups, each with different results.  These are some of my favorites.

Images were created using the Canon 1D Mk IV and the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens.
