Last week, while working in New York, I had the opportunity to pay a quick visit to the Montauk Point Lighthouse. This is on the far tip of Long Island, so its a bit of a drive but is well worth the time. I have more images that I'll post soon.

Because Sometimes 14mm Just Isn't Wide Enough
For a long time, the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II lens has been one of my favorites. It's a beautiful lens, plenty wide, very sharp, and nicely corrected. It's a great lens and I've produced some fantastic images with it. I captured this image of Hoover Dam the other night while I was in Vegas for work. I shot this on the 5D Mk III with the 14mm lens. I like the image. I think it works well. But, it would be nice to be able to shoot a little wider so that I didn't cut off the far end of the bridge or clip the bottom of the near tower.
Well, lucky for me, I had the opportunity to bring along the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4.0L lens. I had been wanting to shoot with this since it was announced. I did not move my camera between these shots, I simply swapped the lenses. I only shot with it for a few minutes, and now I can't wait to get my hands on it again. This thing is sharp edge to edge. And, not only is it wide, it is also corrected so that things stay nice and straight. This will be a fun lens in a lot of situations.
By the way, you really should take the extra effort to click on the images. . .

Desert Painting
I had the opportunity to do a little painting in the desert the other day with some friends. Always a good time.

A Few Orchids
Last week, I was in Texas for a few days for work. As a part of the class we were teaching, we spent some time at the Shangri La Arboretum in Orange. While we were primarily there to shoot wildlife, we got to spend a few minutes in the orchid greenhouse. I didn't have a lot of time to shoot the blossoms, but did manage to grab a few shots.
