A Few With The 50mm

I took a quick walk through the garden with the 50mm this morning.

The Conference Center

Recently, I was visiting downtown Salt Lake City with some friends. Our last stop was a quick tour through the Conference Center at TempleSquare. Boy, the 14mm and full frame combo really came in handy for this place.

Not Quite a Full Moon Rising

On the night before the super moon, I met up with another friend and we headed up the canyon to see what we could get. Because it was a day earlier, the moon came up about 45 minutes earlier so there was still a lot of sun going on. The images of the moon coming up through the horizon and haze weren't anything too exciting. I do really like the first image, however. I love the layers created by the landscape and the haze in the sky. Good stuff. The second and third images were taken on our way back down the canyon.

Full Moon Rising

You may have heard something about a super moon over the past few days. Well, I took the opportunity to head out with a friend last night for the big event. Of course, it was cloudy all day and didn't look like it was going to break up. Well, on the small chance that we'd get lucky we found our spot and set up the cameras to see what would play out. We got lucky, use as the moon started to peak over the horizon, a small band of clouds broke up long enough for us to get some shots. I love the trees on the ridge-line and the bits of clouds moving across the moon. As quickly as the clouds broke up, they came back and the moon was gone.  Good stuff.

The Barn

This is Southern Alberta.  Hillspring to be more exact.  The Great Canadian Barn Dance to be even more exact.  This is the view from my uncle Ralph's back porch, looking south.  This is a composite of several images shot vertically and combined into a panorama.  If you zoom in on the image, you'll see the barn right in the center.  That barn turns 102 this year.  It's pretty remarkable that it has stood up to the prairie winds for that long.  Beyond the barn, in the far distance, you can see Chief Mountain.  Chief is one of the most recognizable mountains in this stretch of the Rockies.  And, although it's best viewed from Canada, it actually sits in Montana.  This amazing little corner of the world is owned and operated by my Uncle Lloyd and his family.  Last week, we said goodbye to one member of that family, Auntie Jo.  She was an amazing woman that left this world a much better place.  She will be missed.

The Kids

While visiting some family on their farm last week, I grabbed a couple of shots of the kids being a little goofy.

The Milky Way

The other night, while doing some light painting with friends, I took the opportunity to grab a few images of the Milky Way. We happened to be out on the night of the new moon and we were a good distance from civilization so there wasn't a lot of light pollution. Because of this, the conditions were pretty darn good.

A Little High Speed Work

While my friends were in town recently, we took the opportunity to do a little high speed photography. We set things up in the garage and had a great time making a big mess. Here's a few of my favorites.

Painting With Friends

Last week, I had the opportunity to do a little light painting with some good friends. For most of them, this was their first experience painting. I must say, we couldn't have asked for better conditions. The sky was clear, there was no moon, and we found a great spot along the Great Salt Lake with lots of shallow water. We had a fantastic time and came away with some great images.
