One Eagle, Multiple Poses

While I liked all of these image individually, I thought they might work well together.  Turns out I was right!

This is actually the same eagle as he flew towards and then over me.  It's a pretty amazing experience to be able to watch these guys so up close and personal.

A Few Eagles

Over the last couple of weeks, I've had several opportunities to spend some time out at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area hanging out with the Bald Eagles.  I've still got a pile of images to work through, but I thought it was about time to get some images posted.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I thought I'd post a sneak peek from a recent outing to Farmington Bay.  I've got a pile of good images from the other morning, but they've got to wait a few more days before I can get to them.  The second image is from the other nigh.  Again, some great images to work on, but they've got to wait.  It's been a busy couple of weeks for me and I've got some work to finish up before I can spend time on these other projects.  I've got to finish up some wedding images, a family portrait shoot, and I've got to get prints ready for a show coming up in March.  It's good to be busy, right?

Three In A Row

Well, actually, it's the same duck but I thought the images worked well together.

Farmington Bay

The other day, I had the opportunity to spend a few minutes at Farmington Bay.  My goal was to shoot some Bald Eagles as my previous attempts this season haven't been too successful.  Even though there wasn't a lot of close eagle action, overall, this trip was better.  

A Little Bit of Wildlife

Last week, I made a quick trip to Yellowstone.  I didn't see a lot of wildlife, but did get to spend some quality time with a couple of moose and with a bull elk.

Images were created with the Canon 7D, Canon 400mm f/2.8L IS lens and the Canon 1.4x III Teleconverter.

American Kestrel

The other morning, my wife and I took a drive out to Farmington Bay.  We were a little slow getting there and although we counted more than 60 Bald Eagles, they had finished fishing for the morning and had moved way out on to the ice and trees.  Even though there weren't a lot of photo ops, we did enjoy watching the eagles, a few harriers, herons, kestrels, and about a bazillion sea gulls (yes, I actually counted them).  The highlight of the morning was the front-row seat we had for and American Kestrel enjoying his mouse for breakfast.  It was pretty amazing to watch this guy devour the mouse.  He kept a pretty close eye on us, but made pretty quick work of his meal.

Heads up - some of these images are a bit on the graphic side.

All but last two images were taken with the Canon 7D and the Canon 400mm f/2.8L IS lens coupled with the Canon 1.4x III Extender.

The last two images were taken with the Canon 40D and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens.

Ducks, Deer, Coyote, Harriers, Porcupines, Eagles, Owls, and Herons.

Not a bad way to spend a few hours on a Saturday.

With the exception of the Owl image, all images were created with the Canon 7D and Canon 400mm f/2.8L IS lens.  

The owl image was taken with the Canon 40D and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens.
