Dealey Plaza

While working in Dallas, TX this week, I realized that I wasn't far from where President Kennedy was assassinated.  One morning, before work, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to go and see the site.  Thanks to Google Maps, I knew where I needed to go but when I got there, I had no idea what I was looking for.  I had wandered around for a while when I happened to meet Ron.  Ron is a homeless guy that has been giving tours of the site for the last 12 years.  While Ron and I walked the route that the motorcade had taken, he gave equal time to the conspiracy theories and the official government reports.  With each important detail, he pointed to the window, the wall where there used to be a fire escape, or the fence.  He pointed out things that had changed, like the road that was once a one-way street is now two-ways.  The sidewalk that had been replaced.  The signs that weren't there then.  We stopped in the spot where Abraham Zapruder shot his home movie.  The details he shared were fascinating.  It was an amazing experience, well worth the time and the $10 I gave Ron for the tour.

Images were created with the Canon 5D Mk II and the Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L IS lens.

  2. I've been there, on foot, also. But not with a guide! I grew up with images from that day, so being there was eerie. Thanks for reminding me of that important memory.
