A Little Painting

Utah has some pretty unique works of art scattered around in the desert.  One of my favorites is the Sun Tunnels near the old ghost town of Lucin.  As interesting as the tunnels are on their own, they look even better with a little paint on them!

This last image was taken by my good friend, Whit Green.  You can see more of his work on Flickr.

  2. Thanks, Christopher244! We use several techniques to create these effects. This first image is done using a chunk of steel wool on a string. You light the steel wool with a lighter and spin away. Be careful, it can start fires and the little burning bits are really hot. We also use fireworks (again, be careful to not start a fire), and various LED gadgets. The advantage of the LEDs is that they don't burn and you can get various colors going on. Once you've got a light source, it's just matter of playing around to see what you get. Typically, I'll start with a 60-90 sec exposure at about f/5.6 and ISO 320-400. Depending on your environment, you'll have to adjust from there.

    Make sense?
