Black and White Flowers

There's just something about black and white flowers that I just can't get enough of.  While working on a recent batch of images of flowers, I converted a couple to black and white, and then a couple more, and then a couple more.  I just couldn't help myself.  Cool thing is that most of these worked really well in color as well.  You'll see them in a future post.  For now, let me know what you think about these.

Side note - I have the opportunity to shoot with some really amazing cameras.  While I'm usually quick to grab the 5D Mk III or the 1Dx, I've been shooting with some of the lower end cameras lately, just to get a good feel for their capabilities.  This series was all shot with the Rebel T5i and the EF-S 18-135mm lens, a combination that costs less than a third of what the 5D Mk III costs without a lens.  I must say, that I am really happy with the results that I am seeing with this gear.  I'm looking forward to using it more.

  1. I think the best way to describe these is enchanting! I hope that you print at least one of them for your wall if you have room. :)

  2. These black and whites came out great! Did you boost the contrast? I love how the edges are so crisp. I don't ever think to convert flowers; I'll have to give it a try.

I'm glad to see you're enjoying the Rebel! My little T3i kit may not have all the bells and whistles, but honestly I wouldn't know what to do with a fancier camera anyway so it works quite fine for me! I just focus on composition and don't print them too large :)
