Christmas Lights & Fireworks

I stopped by The Imaging Depot today to see what they had that I couldn't live without.  I got to chatting with Mat about the parade and the Christmas Village lighting ceremonies that were happening a little later.  Well, to make a long story short, he was kind enough to invite us to come back and watch the fireworks from the roof.  We took him up on it and headed back for the parade and the fireworks.  It was pretty cool!

Light Painting Expedition

The other day, my buddies and I were talking and we decided that we needed to make one more trek out to the Spiral Jetty before winter set in.  Last night was the night.  There ended up being eight of us on this expedition, several of the regulars as well as some new guys.  I must say that it was a pretty good group.  Because of other commitments, we were not able to be out there early enough for the sunset, so it was good and dark by the time we got there.  To add a little adventure to this trip, we pulled into the parking area at the Jetty and hopped out to hear the sound of a hissing tire.  Yup, we got to spend the first bit of our night rolling around in the dirt trying to get the spare out from under my Suburban only to find that it was mighty low on air.  Luckily, The second vehicle in the expedition had a matching spare so we didn't have to make the 50 mile walk back to town.

Even though there wasn't much of the Jetty above water, we decided to attempt lighting it up anyways.  The results are decent, but there are some things we will do differently when we return in the spring.  The remainder of the evening we spent out by the old oil derricks.  These posts and the water around them make a perfect setting for light painting.  In addition, the fact that this site is 50 miles from civilization makes it a little easier to bring out the big guns.  The only thing that would have made the conditions any better last night was if it was a bit warmer.  20° and breezy made it a bit on the chilly side.

Quick Trip To The Uintas

Way back in July, while my family was out of town, I took a quick trip up to the Uinta mountains for a little fishing and photography.  It was a really good trip, I took my time and just wandered.  When I was tired, I found a flat spot, rolled out my sleeping bag in the back of the car, and slept.  The next morning, I got up and wandered some more.  As you can see, summer hadn't quite found it's way.  Even though it was July, there was still plenty of snow and ice around.  Some of the smaller lakes were still completely iced over.  I even saw people cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.  Pretty crazy.  The fishing wasn't so hot, but the moody weather made for some great photo opportunities.
